During the financial year ended 31 March 2008, Sony sold 9.2m PlayStation 3 consoles globally – an increase of 5.6m on the previous financial year's total. That's over-the-counter sales, not shipments to shops, the company stressed. Software sales for the console also increased by 44.6m units, to nearly 58m.At this rate the Sony PS3 will have a global install base at about 17+million and thats being fairly conservative(I took all PS3 sales provided by VGchartz.com and divided it by total months the Sony PS3 has been out). Thats not counting GTA IV sales and holiday 2008 sales.
Its very conceivable that Sony PS3 could surpass Xbox360 install base by the end of this year.
