Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds (PS3) Reviews

The Best Golf Game You Never Thought to Play

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds has just landed on Sony's PS3 on March 19th 2008. For the masses out there that plays golf and has only lived and breath Tiger Woods, Hot Shot Golf: Out of Bounds will tickle your fantasy for your Virtual tea time.

I have been playing the Japanese Demo on my Sony PS3 for some time now and have truly enjoyed my time with the Demo.

I have not purchase Hot Shot Golf: Out of Bounds yet, it will be added to my collection very shortly. I was very interested to see how the Internet Gaming Community will receive Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, so I did a little research( if you want to call it that) and so far it has been very well received.Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds looks like a great game that you can add to your Sony PS3 library with confidence.

411mania.com Quick Take

If you have ever played a golf game before *odds are that you have* than you will be right at home with Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is not only the best golf game on any current platform *that includes Wii*, but it’s also one of the best golf games ever. Mario Golf and Tiger Woods have nothing on Hot Shots; I definitely recommend it over the alternatives. There is room for improvement, such as adding voice chat into online play, but otherwise you’re going to have a hard time finding a golf game that’s better than this. You may want to wait until a price drop, but Hot Shots Golf is one of the best pick-ups on the PS3 *especially if you like sports games*.

PunchJump.com Quick Take

Online play worked without a hitch and produced fun, fast, relaxing play on a 18-hole course. After each hole, players can easily choose from pre-set phrases to praise other players or complain about their performance.

The graphics engine is solid at 30 frames per second. Developer Clap Handz introduces more wacky characters and phrases in the title to provide a cute, offbeat atmosphere. The music is comprised a soft-beat tracks that compliment the relaxed atmosphere.

Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds is another solid installment in the premiere Playstation franchise. The Advanced Shot Mode provides a new layer of depth to gameplay and the Online Mode is fast fun for all ages.

kotaku.com Loves & Hate

Loved
Advanced Shot System: While the original metered swing system is still available, the Advanced Shot System is one of the most natural golf swing mechanics I've encountered. Judging your power seems like it would be a crap shoot without a meter, but somehow they've made it work.

Hated
Unlocking Courses: It takes forever to unlock new courses in the game, which is pretty standard for the series. By the time you unlock the third course you'll be completely sick of the first two.

HTML what a bitch.....Damn Still Constructing?

By:NanoGeek

Still trying to redo my blog, having a few issues so please bear with me. I have absolutely no knowledge of HTML.... I am learning as I go. So far it feels like Google is the best classroom on the planet.

They are a few issues I am currently having, one being implementing my search into the search bar you see on my Blog. My biggest dilemma is, I've downloaded a web 2.0 template and the way the code is written and where everything is placed is totally different form the previous template I was using and getting used to at the same time. So it feels like I have to get a little more comfortable with the new code.

Its been a tough week, I have to buy a new computer my Laptop died...I guess it was time it was four years old HP. I worked the hell out of that Laptop cannot complain. Now work I can complain all damn day........... long but hey thats why its called WORK not FUN or PLAY. This week has been the hemorrhoidal work week from hell and back, its been a pure pain in my ass. I have had meetings and trainings all over the beltway...waste of gas and time...

I digress...HTML is a foreign language especially when you are a NooB (I hear this song in my head when trying learn HTML) like me. Only if learning HTML was as easy as getting a 20 kill win streak in Sony's PS3 COD4. I need to get my search engine right, I have to get my Banner ad right, My blog has not been indexed by Google since February 15th 2008?Plus some more shit.... Trying to be a Pro Blogger isn't easy....If anyone has any suggestions or tips please feel free to drop me a line.

Researchers developing 3-D camera with 12,616 lenses

The camera you own has one main lens and produces a flat, two-dimensional photograph, whether you hold it in your hand or view it on your computer screen. On the other hand, a camera with two lenses (or two cameras placed apart from each other) can take more interesting 3-D photos.

But what if your digital camera saw the world through thousands of tiny lenses, each a miniature camera unto itself" Youd get a 2-D photo, but youd also get something potentially more valuable: an electronic depth map containing the distance from the camera to every object in the picture, a kind of super 3-D.

Stanford electronics researchers, lead by electrical engineering Professor Abbas El Gamal, are developing such a camera, built around their multi-aperture image sensor. Theyve shrunk the pixels on the sensor to 0.7 microns, several times smaller than pixels in standard digital cameras. Theyve grouped the pixels in arrays of 256 pixels each, and theyre preparing to place a tiny lens atop each array.

Super Mario Powered by: WidgetBox

Microsoft is snubbing Blu-ray for the Xbox: The company is gearing up for another HD video assault.

The deal gave HD DVD its competitive next-gen features, but here's the rub: Microsoft didn't need physical media to implement HDi. All of HDi's interactive bells and whistles could theoretically be applied to downloadable video content, as long as a runtime environment was available. Even as the disc format war raged on, elements of HDi's runtime environment showed up in Microsoft products like the Xbox 360 and Vista.

HDi-on-a-disc may now be dead, but the technology certainly isn't. A Microsoft developer told me that the company's HDi crew hasn't been disbanded. Microsoft was apparently quite pleased with HDi's performance, and is currently exploring applications on other platforms.

Could it be? Does the PS3 have more and better exclusives this year? Looks like 2008 may possibly be the year of the Playstation, again. Just like old times. Is it just me or is almost every big game coming out this year a sequel? No matter what console you’re on. Either way, you got to be excited about something on the list. If the majority of these games actually release this year, wow. But does anyone really expect that? So, let’s jump in and analyze the exclusives. Note, this list in no way represents the entire list of exclusive titles for each console. It does, however, represent what we at Counteragent think are the biggest exclusives most likely to actually be released this calender year.

An Important Message from: Best Buy

For months, there has been much debate surrounding the two competing high-definition video formats: Toshiba's HD DVD and Sony's Blu-ray Disc. Recently, Toshiba announced that they will no longer produce HD DVD players, and movie studios have decided not to release new titles in the HD DVD format.
Exciting news if you bought your HD DVD player from Best Buy
As the owner of an HD DVD player, you may have concerns about these developments. At Best Buy, we are dedicated to making sure you always have the right technology for you. That's why we're offering you a complimentary $50 Best Buy gift card for each HD DVD player you purchased from Best Buy before February 23, 2008. (See details and qualifying models.) Use the gift card to treat yourself to anything you want in our stores or online. Most qualifying customers will automatically receive their complimentary gift card by mail in the coming weeks. If you qualify and haven't received yours by May 1, 2008, please call us at 1-888-BEST-BUY to verify your eligibility (have your receipt handy, if possible).

Good news (even if you didn't buy from us)
Be assured that your HD DVD player will continue to play existing HD DVD titles (and upconvert standard DVDs to near-HD quality) as it always has. If you purchased a Best Buy service plan with your HD DVD player, we will continue to honor it for the life of the plan. If, however, you wish to trade in your HD DVD player and HD DVDs, we offer a convenient way to do so via our Best Buy Trade-In Center. Beginning March 21, visit BestBuyTradeIn.com to get an instant estimate of the value of your HD DVD player and movies. See below for further information, along with additional resources that we hope you'll find helpful as you examine your options.

Blu-ray New releases for March 2008

New PSP Firmware Released, Adds 20 New Radio Stations

Sony has released its latest firmware for the PSP, version 3.93, which expands support for Playstation Network titles and adds 20 new internet radio players for users of the PSP Internet Radio feature.

Sony did not release specific details on how the new firmware expands support for PSN, but did explain that the new radio players are "organized into more specific styles of music so that PSP users can easily find what they are looking for and listen to their favorite genres."

The release follows this month's of the version 2.17 firmware for the PS3.

"More than 50 percent of PSP users listen to music on their system," said John Koller, the Senior Marketing Manager for Sony PSP on the US Playstation Blog, "so we think a lot of you will enjoy this free, new expansion of their music library."

IN-DEPTH:How have PS3 sales really fared since the price drop?

Sales of Sony's PlayStation 3 in January and February 2008, around 69,000 systems per week, are nothing short of a complete turnaround for the system. When compared to PS3 sales in July 2007, the month of a price drop and the best non-Holiday month of the past year, Sony's sales are up 77%. Looked at another way, Sony's sales in the first two months of 2008 are equivalent to the combined sales of the five months from March to July of 2007. That Sony has improved so much yet still lags the Wii by nearly 40,000 systems per week is a true measure of just how weak the PlayStation 3 was last year and how strong the Wii still is today.

The Grapevine, Tex.-based company reported fiscal 2007 sales of $7.1 billion for the year ended February 2, up 33 percent over the prior year.

Net earnings were $288.3 million versus $158.3 million, an 82.1 percent increase (this year was one week shorter than last). Operating earnings were up 50 percent to $501.42 million.

For the fourth fiscal quarter, GameStop reported sales of $2.87 billion, with comparable store sales rising 17.4 percent during the period. Net earnings were $189.8 million, up 46.2 percent, while quarterly operating earnings were up 30 percent to $293.15 million

New videogame software sales rose 38.4 percent, led by the top five-selling titles, Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Assassin's Creed, Super Mario Galaxy and Guitar Hero III.

GameStop also said that it opened 586 stores during the fiscal year. GameStop chief exec R. Richard Fontaine said in a statement, "Prospects for the 575-600 new store openings in 2008 look very promising even with the current concerns about the US economy. As one of the few American retailers actively seeking many new sites, GameStop is positioned to secure better locations with more advantageous lease terms and is more frequently being viewed as a critical brand to anchor strip centers."

The company forecast first quarter comparable store sales to grow between 24 and 25 percent. Earnings per share during the quarter are expected to be between 32 and 33 cents.

GameStop forecast fiscal 2008 sales growth of between 19 and 21 percent, with comparable store sales growth of 10 to 12 percent.

Full year earnings for 2008 are forecast to range from $2.25 to $2.34.

Sony launches web video service

TOKYO — Sony subsid Sony Marketing will launch a vid service for Internet users on March 31, the company said Monday.

Called branco, the service will offer free video content, including docus, dramas and toons, for subs to the broadband Internet services of NTT East and NTT West, the former telecoms covering Eastern and Western Japan. Users will need to download a special "branco player" app to view the content.

The Amedora channel will be devoted to foreign dramas, Bandai Channel to toons, Discovery Channel to docus, VMC to music vids, Dramatic! Film to shorts, toons and feature pics, and Puchi TV to shorts, including toons and pop music vids.

A special "chat function" will enable users to share info and views.

Should YOU buy GT 5: Prologue?

Do you mind paying over $100 in total for the full Gran Turismo 5 software experience?

I say over $100 because Sony has shown a large amount of interest in the idea of having users pay for “extra” downloadable content such as tracks and cars. The $100 is comprised of the $39.99 for GT 5: Prologue and $59.99 for the full version of GT 5. As of this time, there have been no announcements to offer any sort of upgrade program for those who purchase GT: Prologue and later opt to purchase the full version of the game, GT 5.

Also consider that if you are the type who wants to experience the game’s full experience, you may need to purchase a new steering wheel / pedal setup, such as Logitech’s G25 ($242 on Amazon.com), since GT 5 will support clutch pedal functionality. If money is no object when it comes to fun read on.

Games Fact or Fiction: 101

5. Earthworm Jim can still be relevant in this day and age.

Mathew Sforcina: Fact

But only if Shiny gets its hands back on it and sticks to the run and shoot/bizarre humor of the originals, and makes it an XBLA or WiiWare game. If they try to "update" it, it'll fail. Stick to nostalgia at first, then start it back up again, and everyone's favorite head whipping hero can still be relevant.

Owain Brimfield: Fact

With the right treatment, any character from the gaming days of yore can be made relevant again (with the possible exception of Cool Spot). Jim has a head start on most due to the fact that he holds a place in many gamers' hearts for being one of the few "zany" characters that actually delivered a genuinely original and funny gaming experience. Plus, the cartoon was awesome, as I think we can all agree. While I think Jim should stick to the 2D platforming genre, there's plenty of room for him to expand his talents elsewhere. Provided the execution is right, Earthworm Jim is a hard franchise to cock up.

Score: 3 for 5

BioShock 2, AAA Rockstar Sequel In 2009, New Payne?

In its call with investors following its Q1 results, Take-Two execs confirmed that BioShock producer was still involved in the 2K Marin sequel, that 2009 would bring another sequel to a triple-A Rockstar game, and hinted at the possibility of a new Max Payne title as film production ramps up.

Asked why the BioShock IP had moved to 2K Marin, and whether Levine was still attached to the project, company CEO Ben Feder said that Levine was a "terrific asset to the company," and that he was working on both BioShock 2 and a different IP.

2K Boston and Australia were both working on a new title, he said, but that was "not to say Ken is not involved" in the continuation of the BioShock franchise.

Future Rockstar

Asked where Rockstar might be headed now that production of Grand Theft Auto IV was winding down, company execs said that in addition to the Xbox 360 downloadable content expected in both Q4 of this year and in 2009, the company would be releasing "at least one major sequel in 2009," though no further details were given beyond saying the game would be a "triple A sequel."

Uncorking Payne

The company was also questioned about the prospects for a new volume in the Max Payne franchise, given more recent news on the forthcoming movie version has been surfacing.

Chairman Strauss Zelnick cryptically alluded to an Orson Welles commercial, saying "we will sell no wine before its time" -- in other words, would release no details before they were ready -- but added that there were "a lot of interesting things going on."

The EA Factor

Throughout the call, all executives stressed that the forthcoming quarter, fiscal year, and into 2009 were well positioned to "reap the benefits" of both the company's turnaround plan, and its stable of owned IP and industry talent.

The call opened with Zelnick's reiteration of prior company releases saying that EA's "unsolicited" offer of $26 a share drastically undervalued the company, and failed to compensate Take-Two shareholders for the synergies EA would receive should the acquisition go through.

Zelnick went through its IP sales numbers: GTA selling 66 million units to date, Midnight Club 11.5 million, Civilization 8 million, Max Payne 7 million, Mafia 2 million, BioShock 2 million, Red Dead Revolver, Manhunt, and Bully all 1.5 million, and Carnival Games approaching 1 million sold thus far.

Feder reiterated as well that the board and ownership was continuing to work to transform the company, increasing its strength and its value for shareholders, and make it "the most creative, innovative, and efficient" company in the industry.
