This has to be consider one of the greatest series in gaming history. With such a following and undisputed amount of respect it is all because of one man Hideo Kojima. He is considered on the greatest gaming minds next to the most influential Shigeru Miyamoto of Nintendo. Metal Gear was a Nintendo Original when it was introduced back 1987 for the MSX computer system and later ported over to the NES. It was then when the first true great gaming experience began to emerge. Metal Gear has appeared on MSX2, NES, PC MS-DOS, Commodore 64, Mobile Phone, PSP, and Playstation 2. With the arrival on the Playstation 2 Metal Gear was taken to the next level and resurrected the franchise to all its glory.
The premise for Metal Gear surrounds a special force agent name Solid Snake on a one man suicide mission to an imaginary axis of evil called Outer Heaven to destroy a Mech like machine called a Titular Weapon. A bipedal tank capable of launching nuclear weapons from any where in the world.
Not much is know in terms of a plot for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. What is know that this time around you are in an open battlefield where anyone and everyone can be friend or foe.
Kojima said MGS4 would place Snake in war locations where there would be two opposing armies--a situation which the ageing stealth agent could use to his advantage.
"To make it very simple, in the past Metal Gears, Snake was going into enemy environments--so everyone apart from Snake was an enemy. This time it's a warzone, so you have country A or country B, so Snake could interfere with either of the countries. It does not necessarily mean that everyone is an enemy to Snake. This creates a new tension in playing this new hide and seek," he said.
Kojima also cryptically hinted that the increased processing grunt of the PS3 would be used not only for better graphics, but for the introduction of "psychological" elements.
"I would also like to challenge the PS3's CPU power for not only what you can see, but also psychological effects, or psychological battles, where it can affect your game play," he said.
2. Devil May Cry 4
Devil May Cry is another great series. It is an all out adrenalin pumping action platformer. Devil May Car was developed by Capcom Production Studio 4 and published by Capcom in 2001 for the Playstation 2. To this date Devil May Cry series has sold over 2 million copies. Since the first Devil May Cry there has been two more sequels, Devil May Cry 2 and Devil May Car 3. The game was designed by Hideki Kamiya(director) and Shinji Mikami(executive producer).

3. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
I have really never played this game in debt. I have played a few made by Insomniac Games( developer). Most notably is Resistance Fall of Man. I can see their potential as a game company for the next generation. I have also noted that most Ratchet & Clank series have been well received.
They are about a total of five games in the series, Ratchet and Clank; Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando; Ratchet and Clank: Up Your Arsenal; and Ratchet: Deadlock for the playstation 2 and most recently Ratchet and Clank Size Matters.
The biggest element that has propel this game into the platformer stratosphere is the whack, weird weapons of the series. You can get a next generation sample from Resistance Fall of Man.
The Ratchet & Clank Future story opens with the shocking discovery that a villain from Ratchet's distant past has tracked him down and wants him dead. This revelation brings up many questions as to Ratchet origins and launches Ratchet and Clank into a mysterious adventure where they begin to learn about his past, the villain's current evil plans, and a glimpse of the future. The story takes place after the past R&C games. Captain Qwark will also be featuring in this game, who is working undercover to give Ratchet and Clank clues that help guide them on their journey. Insomniac have also coordinated with High Impact Games (the developers of Ratchet and Clank: Size Matters) to ensure that there were no story conflicts with the PSP game.
4. Lair
Lair should be out by this summer I hope. This is one of the first games to utilize the the power of the cell processor. The game is being Developed by Factor 5. Factor 5 has develop games for Gamecube, Nintendo 64, Playstation 1, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, Game Boy and Amiga. Some of their games you may have played: R-Type(1998) for the Amiga, Super Turrican(1993) for Super Nintendo(one of my classic favorites) Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II & III just to name a few. So we have a establish game company trying something different. How will this translate to a great game no one will know until it gets here. In my opinion Factor 5 Lair will live up to the hype.
Lair is an action flight and combat game in which players control a Dragon to fight both in the air and land. The use of the SIXAXIS control will be a major part of game play, which will be used to control the flight of your dragon.
The story is supposed to live up the to the games incredible graphics and sound which is being done by John Debney how did the score for The Passion of the Christ.
If technology is your thing Lair will be one game that may set new standards and make the ownership of a PS3 worth while. Here is a list of what you can expect your pretty black box to churn out when it is mated with Lair.
Lair supports native full HD 1080p graphics and 7.1 uncompressed audio [2] and also takes advantage of the following technologies:
-Progressive Mesh is a technique rendered by the Cell microprocessor, which allows for an intensive amount of detail to be placed upon vast number of objects, both up-close and far away.
-High-Dynamic Range Lighting: All of the lights, shadows, reflections, and highlights in Lair are in HDR, and are rendered in real-time by the Cell and RSX, thus allowing the lighting scheme to completely change, just like the time of day does in-game, however, due to the advanced programming of the lighting system, it will be ever-changing, and rarely, if ever the same twice.
-Real-time Dynamic Physics: Every second of gameplay, Lair renders hundreds of physics effects on everything from your dragon, down to the cloak on an enemy soldier. All enemies and allies have their own physics-driven animations, and have individually programmed ragdolls.
-Real-time Fluid Dynamics: All of the water effects in Lair, such as waves, are run by real-time fluid dynamics on the Cell.
-Parallax Shaders: Parallax shaders are used on almost every object in Lair, including fire and clouds.
-Real-Time Renderings/Volumetric Effects: The fire in Lair is rendered in real-time, and has its own physics. All of the clouds, smoke, and fog effects are volumetric. Lava, rain, wind, fur, and more are also rendered in real-time.

5. Dark Sector
Dark Sector thrusts players into the role of Hayden Tenno, an operative sent on a dangerous assassination mission into Lasria – an Eastern European city on the brink of ruin that hides a deadly Cold War secret. Attacked by an unknown enemy, he awakens to find part of his body altered by an infection that has granted him inhuman abilities. Now, Hayden must learn to evolve along with his powers, to survive and to become a hero.
Created by acclaimed developer Digital Extremes. Digital Extremes is responsible for a great array of games. Unreal Tournament PC,PS2 and Dreamcast, Unreal Tournament 2003 & 2004 for PC just to name a few. Dark Sector is slated to be released on September, 4 2007.
6. GTA IV
Pimps, Nappy Headed Hos, carjacking, drive by's, and finally gracing its pixel perfect mayhem on Next Generation. Its going to be a hard decision to make when this game comes out. I will have to buy it for PS3 and 360(for achievements only). Grand Theft Auto took sandbox gaming main stream. The original series begun in 1997 on PC and 1998 on the PS2. And from there history was made. Jack Thompson became a Media House hold name and video games became the missing link to gun violence. They have been many GTA installments: Grand Theft Auto(1997 & 1998), Grand Theft Auto 2 (1999),Grand Theft Auto III(2001) ,Grand Theft Auto: Vice City(2002),Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas(2004),Grand Theft Auto Advance(2004) ,Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories(2005),Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories (2006). The story is pretty much the same you play as a thug that live on the edge of society doing extremly seedy things, sych as killing pimps, picking up prositutes, killing rival gang members, killing innocent bystanders, racing from point A to point B to complete a liner mission that usually ends up with someone pushing up daisies.
What makes GTA so great was the freedom to go ALMOST anywhere and doing ALMOST anything. Now it has graduate to Next Generation we should be able to more freedom than ever before. Now the debate will begin, with next generation you get more realistic graphics with more realistic volience would GTA IV shine a brighter light of negativity on Video Games? Only time and the press will tell.
7. Resident Evil V
Resident Evil the grand daddy of all survial horror. This series made truly brought frear, fright, and horror to our living rooms like nothing else out there. the Resident Evil series was inspired by Sweet Home which is based off a Japanese horror movie of the same name. Resident Evil made its debut back in 1996 for the sony Playstation.
Resident Evil spawn a number of sequels: RE2, RE3, Resident Evil: Code Name Veronica, Resident Evil: Veronica X, Resident Evil Zero and the greatest of them all Resident Evil V for the little purple box that could, the Nintendo Gamecube. Franchise's like this come out once a lifetime. This series brought back respectability to Nintendo, when series crator and producer Shinji Mikami made RE4 a Nintendo Gamecube exclusive. Beside that a remake of the original Resident Evil, the prequal Resident Evil Zero and one of gaming greatest moments Resident Evil 4.
Resident Evil 5 will be a mind numbing expeience, you have Jun Takeushi the director of Onimusha and the produser of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition. Keiji Inafune who servered as a Promotional Producer for RE2 and excutive producer for RE4 for the Playstation 2 will be overseeing the project.
Not much is know about the plot of RE5, we have been tease with a short trailer, we do not know if this is in game footage or a cut scene. You be the judge.

9. Heavenly Sword
Wow I need some eye drops to help my eyes to stop bleeding. If this game live up in terms of game play, story, and great moments, this may be the next great franchise in the making. According to the website http://www.ninjatheory.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=33&Itemid=60 Hevenly Sword is a stunningly beautiful martial arts drama designed exclusively as a next-generation console game. The storyline concerns a girl with only a few days left to live who embarks on one final act of redemption against a king and his invading army. Heavenly Sword employs state-of-the-art technology and gameplay to take players through a roller coaster of emotion and action that truly exploits the potential of gaming as the new artistic entertainment medium.
